June 27-30th 2013

Set up in an abandoned Soviet airspace one hour north of Berlin, Fusion Festival is four days of as they call it, “Holiday Communism.” They promote themselves as anti-prejudice, while praising individual freedoms. Limited to 55,000 tickets a year, they’ve been known to sell out within two days. With a dozen dance floors and eight of them running nonstop, the festivities are endless. They play a variety of sounds, from trance, dubstep, techhouse, breakbeats, and even swing. Preferring to leave you surprised, they don’t announce the acts until you arrive.

Motion Notion, Golden, British Columbia, Canada
July 18-22nd 2013

Run through the green expanse and dance all night in the daisy fields. Or swim in the cool waters of the lake if the untouched forests don’t provide enough shade in the early afternoon. This location at Beaverfoot Lodge is equally if not more stunning than its previous location in Drayton Valley. From drum and bass, electro, glitch, and more, there’s something for everyone. Both lesser known acts and big names such as The Crystal Method take to one of the three main stages over the weekend. With the Motion Notion philosophy being ‘Movement is Existence,’ rest assured everyone will be in action all weekend long.

A must-see place on many a backpacker’s list is the land of Nepal, with its breathtaking scenery and rich heritage. In the past, the Nepal Tourism board, Foreign ministry and WWF Nepala, have all turned to Universal Religion to help promote tourism to Nepal. And they’ve done it well. Set at the Fulbari Resort, it is surrounded by snow-capped mountains to the north and a river gorge to the south. This psytrance-heavy festival focuses on eco-sustainability and uses solar energy to power one of its two stages. With yoga classes and healing workshops, be harmonious with everyone and the world around you.

Afrikaburn, Tankwa Karoo, South Africa
May 1-6 2013

An off-shoot of the legendary Burning Man event, the transient settlers come back to build and sustain the temporary Tankwa Town. From theme camps named “Bad Boy Town” to “Good Clean Fun” and a plethora of artworks and “mutant vehicles,” there is something for everyone. As there is no main stage and no power supply provided, the music selection is eclectic and can be performed by anyone. As the iconic San Clan structure burns in the night, go out and play. Join the collective consciousness.
